Injectables Pre Treatment Advice
I cannot treat you if:
-
You are under 18
-
You have skin diseases such as psoriasis or eczema in the area of treatment
-
You have transmittable blood conditions like HIV or Hepatitis
-
You are on any skin medication such as Accutane or steroids

Stop Taking Certain Medications: For at least 1 week before the procedure, avoid taking blood-thinning medications or supplements, including:
-
Aspirin
-
Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
-
Naproxen (Aleve)
-
Vitamin E
-
Fish oil supplements
-
St. John’s Wort
-
-
Avoid alcohol for 24-48 hours before the treatment. Alcohol can thin the blood, increase bruising, and heighten the risk of swelling and other complications.
-
Avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning beds for at least 48 hours before your appointment. Skin that's irritated from the sun may be more prone to side effects like swelling and bruising.
-
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water before the procedure. Hydrated skin can help the filler last longer and provide better results.
-
Moisturize your skin leading up to the treatment to keep it in the best condition possible.
-
Refrain from waxing or threading the area to be treated for 1-2 weeks before your filler appointment, as these treatments can irritate your skin and cause more swelling or redness during the procedure.
-
On the day of the appointment, avoid wearing makeup on the area to be treated. This ensures the skin is clean and reduces the risk of infection.
-
Make sure to inform your provider about any medical conditions, such as allergies, autoimmune diseases, or skin conditions. This is important as some conditions may require special consideration during the procedure.
-
Be prepared for some downtime after the procedure. Swelling, redness, and bruising are common, especially in the first 24-48 hours. If you have any upcoming events or social engagements, it may be a good idea to schedule the procedure with a little extra time for recovery.
-
Understand the healing process: Results from dermal fillers aren’t instant. Swelling and bruising can last a few days, so don’t expect the results right away. It can take a few weeks for the filler to settle completely.
-
Avoid smoking for at least 24 hours before and after the treatment. Smoking can impair circulation and delay healing, making it harder for the filler to settle correctly.
Injectables Post Treatment Advice
After getting dermal fillers or other injectables, it’s important to follow post-treatment care to ensure the best results and minimize potential side effects. Here’s some advice for what to do after your treatment:
-
Don't touch, rub, or massage the treated area for at least 24 hours. This can help prevent the filler from migrating or affecting the final results.
-
Refrain from vigorous exercise or activities that may cause excessive sweating or increase blood flow (like hot yoga, running, or heavy lifting) for 24-48 hours after the procedure. Intense physical activity can cause swelling or bruising, and may also affect how the filler settles.
-
Avoid lying down or reclining for about 4 hours after treatment, as this can affect the way the filler settles in your skin. Try not to sleep on the treated area, particularly if you’ve had fillers in areas like the lips or under-eye area.
-
Avoid hot showers, saunas, and steam rooms for 48 hours. Heat can increase swelling and bruising and may affect the results.
-
Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for at least 1 week after your treatment. If you need to be outside, apply sunscreen to protect your skin.
-
Apply a cold compress or ice pack to the treated area for 10-15 minutes every couple of hours during the first 24 hours to reduce swelling and bruising. Be sure to wrap the ice or compress in a soft cloth to avoid direct contact with the skin.
-
Avoid alcohol for at least 24-48 hours post-treatment, as it can increase the risk of bruising and swelling.
-
Refrain from taking any blood thinners like aspirin, ibuprofen, or other non-prescription pain relievers for the first few days post-treatment. If your doctor prescribed medication for pain or swelling, be sure to follow their guidance.
-
Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and help the fillers settle well. If you had lip fillers, keep your lips moisturized with a gentle lip balm.
-
It can take up to 2 weeks for the filler to fully settle and for swelling to subside. If you notice lumps or unevenness, give it time as these typically smooth out after a few days.
-
If you're still concerned after 2 weeks, contact your provider for a follow-up consultation.
-
Avoid smoking for at least 24-48 hours post-treatment. Smoking can restrict blood flow, which may affect healing and the final results.
-
If you notice any persistent pain, bruising, or swelling after the treatment, or if something doesn’t look right, don’t hesitate to contact your injector.
.
-
While rare, some complications can occur. If you experience any of the following, seek medical attention immediately:
-
Severe pain at the injection site.
-
Unusual swelling or redness.
-
Signs of an allergic reaction (e.g., hives, difficulty breathing).
-
Vision changes (in the case of Botox).
-
-
For at least 2 weeks after the treatment, avoid having other skin treatments (such as facials, chemical peels, or laser treatments) on the treated area.
By following these post-treatment instructions, you’ll help ensure your results are as effective and long-lasting as possible. Always refer to the specific aftercare advice given by your provider, as it may vary depending on the type of filler or injectables you received.
